First Results from Iso Spectra of Supernova Remnants Heavily Interacting with the Ism

چکیده
ISO spectra 1 of the supernova remnant RCW103 are presented. This object is the prototype of a SNR shock heavily interacting with dense ISM (probably a molecular cloud). The spectra are dominated by prominent lines and show very little continuum at < 40 m suggesting that the 12 and 25 m IRAS emission from these types of remnant could be dominated by lines rather than continuum emission from warm dust heated by the shock as generally believed. The ISO data provide for the rst time a simple and reliable estimate of the gas phase abundances of Si and Fe which are found to be close to solar relative to non refractory species such as Ne, S and Ar. This indicates that the shock is very eeective in destroying the ISM dust and may therefore explain the absence of warm dust behind the shock. Like the optical Nickel lines, NiII]6.63 m yields Ni/Fe abundances a factor 10 above solar which we conclude results from a large underestimation of the computed Ni + collision strengths. 1 Based on observations with ISO, an ESA project with instruments funded by ESA Member States (especially the PI countries: France, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom) with the participation of ISAS and NASA. 2 E. Infrared spectroscopy of young supernova remnants heavily interacting with the interstellar medium ⋆ I . Ionized species in RCW 103
ISO spectral observations of the supernova remnant RCW103 are presented. This object is the prototype of relatively young remnants ( 103 yr) with fast shocks (vs 1000 km/s) interacting with dense interstellar medium. The spectrum is dominated by prominent lines of [NeII], [SiII], [FeII] and other low excitation species which provide, for the first time, a simple and reliable estimate of the gas...

The long-term evolution of supernova remnants (SNRs) in the primordial interstellar medium (ISM) with an inhomogeneous structure is calculated to investigate metal enrichment of the primordial gas. For this purpose, we have constructed a parallel 3-D hydrodynamics code incorporating the radiative cooling and self-gravity. The self-gravity and radiative cooling develop the inhomogeneous structur...

Spectroscopic observations at 2.4 – 45 μm of the young supernova remnant Cas A with the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) Short Wavelength Spectrometer (SWS) reveal strong emission lines of O, Ne, Si, S, and Ar. These lines are observed at high velocities (several 10 km s), and are therefore associated with the supernova ejecta known as the fast-moving knots (FMKs). Continuum emission from dust ...
متن کاملRevealing New Physical Structures in the Supernova Remnant N63A through Chandra Imaging Spectroscopy
We present Chandra X-ray observations of the supernova remnant (SNR) N63A in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). N63A, one of the brightest LMC remnants, is embedded in an H ii region and probably associated with an OB association. The optical remnant consists of three lobes of emission contained within the approximately three times larger X-ray remnant. Our Chandra data reveal a number of new ph...
متن کاملA Possible Supernova Remnant High above the Galactic Disk
We present the analysis of three Suzaku observations of a bright arc in the ROSAT All-Sky Survey 1/4 keV maps at l ≈ 247, b ≈ −64. In particular, we have tested the hypothesis that the arc is the edge of a bubble blown by an extraplanar supernova. One pointing direction is near the brightest part of the arc, one is toward the interior of the hypothesized bubble, and one is toward the bubble ext...
